Literature Text

In the end of endings a light shone frail and bright
That in the beginning of beginnings pushed back the looming night
Mere anarchy is loosed in the twilight time of men
Either serpent or the savior will be the one to come again
Nebulous the nothingness edges on the wind
The grass is always greener when the fields are sown with sin
And as the greedy evil is drunk by greedy men
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed upon the blood-bright hearts of kin

The stranger’s eyes and stranger’s mouth are tools of something more
The lion screams its fearsome screams but you’ll never hear it roar
In darkness fire never sleeps but never lies awake
My mind is in a battle with the lives of gods at stake
Nothing ever happens when nothing’s ever seen
But is sight within the blindness a nightmare of a dream?
This poem was written for a school assignment in response to Yeat's The Second Coming. (Google it if you're interested.) It relies heavily on quotes from the original, but I am loathe to italicize or otherwise indicate them because that would destroy the flow of the poem. Besides which, I beleive the original is in public domain, but don't quote me on that. Ayway, I think I used the lines in new ways, so enjoy!
